Gangotri - The start of the Ganges river ? How wrong could you be. Gangotri is just where the road ends and the temple town of Gangotri just signifies the start of the Ganges. The real source of the Ganges is much above this, deep in the Himalayas. The trek starts from Gangotri  and we go to Gomukh where the Ganges starts as a stream.  Further you traverse over the Gomukh Glacier, passing the Akash Ganga and ascend to Tapovan, the spiritual home of the gods.
